DA probes R49 500 spent on OR Tambo District ANC Councillors

BY Councillor Thembalihle Xhangayi, OR Tambo District Municipality

The DA has learnt that the OR Tambo District Municipality has paid R49,500 to accommodate ANC councillors in an East London hotel, on a date when there was no council business in East London, and for travel unapproved by Council.

The DA has launched a probe into this, beginning with a written request to Mayor Nomakhosazana Meth to explain her approval for this travel, while it was unapproved by Council.

The Garden Court in East London accommodated 18 ANC Councillors on the night of 20 November 2016.

The DA views this as a serious abuse of public funds. Public money should never be used to accommodate the ANC on business that has nothing to do with governing or delivery.

The DA will continue to probe this matter, and will hold those accountable to repay any monies wasted.
