Education success - Edmund van Vuuren

BY Edmund van Vuuren (MPL) Shadow MEC for Education

Both MP Annette Lovemore and I recently visited Jansenville School Hostel after they did not receive their subsidy from the Department of Education for the 2nd and 3rd Term. I then phoned Mr Mtyida the Chief Director Education Social Support Services to intervene. The school was contacted that Wednesday three days after our visit and they were paid the following Monday.

I have raised a question with the MEC of Education on when work will commence on the removal of the burnt structure of Jubilee Park Primary School which was ravaged by a fire in May. The MEC has advised that 10 mobile classrooms would be delivered to the site.

Please see the Jubilee Park Question and answer attached.

I have raised my concerns with the Human Rights Commission on the issue of inadequate sanitation facilities for learners in the Eastern Cape. The condition of these facilities is a human rights violation and needs to be investigated. The Human Rights Commission is currently looking into the matter.

I have brought the huge problem of workbook shortages in the Eastern Cape under the attention of the Public Protector. The Public Protector started its investigation last year and came up with their findings about a month ago. It is a draft report and we are not allowed to make it public yet. I am very satisfied with the findings and it will make a huge difference to the situation.
